Introducing Magenta Masterpiece and Meteor!

Magenta Masterpiece
Most colors can't claim a history - they've just always been there.  Magenta is an exception.

For most of history dyes were made from natural items - flowers, leaves, nuts, fruits, vegetables, etc. - but just because a color exists in nature doesn't mean it can be reproduced in yarn.  That changed when the first synthetic dye produced mauve in 1856, a color that had been impossible to reproduce with natural dyes.  Mauve created a fashion sensation, and chemists raced to produce the next dye color.  The first magenta dye was produced in France in 1858 or 1859 (historians argue about the exact date).  The color was called fuchsine, after the color of the fuchsia flower, and in 1860 the color was renamed magenta in honor of the Battle of Magenta, fought near the town of Magenta, Italy.  Like mauve, the new magenta dye also became a commercial success.

And that's not surprising - magenta is an awesome color! Liberty Wool Print's new color, Magenta Masterpiece, is an exciting array of magenta, purple and red balanced with the more subdued blue, gray and brown.   Lustrous, without overdoing it - and just as pretty today as it was in 1860!

If you want more drama, Liberty Wool Print's other new color, Meteor, is the color for you.  Meteors are NOT known for being subtle.  They enter our atmosphere with excitement and drama, a flash of blue brilliance followed by a colorful tail of pink, orange, yellow and green.  Meteor captures this dazeling color perfectly.  Wallflowers, please choose a different color!

Seeded Rib Vest and Dinky Hat
Liberty Wool Print is Classic Elite's soft worsted weight, machine washable 100% wool yarn.  Yup, that's right, I said machine washable wool.  It is a self striping yarn in a huge assortment of awesome colors, and Magenta Masterpiece and Meteor are the two newest of over 35 colors of Liberty Wool Print!

Bonus:  For a limited time ALL Liberty Wool Print - not just the two new colors, but ALL Liberty Wool Print - is on sale at 20% off!

Want somethin' free?  Well, who doesn't?  Buy any quantity of Magenta Masterpiece or Meteor and you get a free pattern!  Choose between the  "Seeded Rib Vest" and the "Dinky Hat."  Both are great accessories, and both are FREE!

Join the April KAL - And Get the Yarn for 20% Off!

Spring is on the way!  Soon it will be that awkward weather when you don't need a coat, but you need something to cover up with.  You need . . .  a shawl!  And if you like mystery, adventure and learning new things, then you need "The Hole Story" shawl, the April Progressive Knit Along (KAL) from Michelle Hunter

Rylie in Freesia
So what will the shawl look like?  We don't know!  That's the fun part of a "mystery" knit-a-long.  Michelle assures us that it will be gorgeous - and that we'll learn some new stitches and new knitting techniques along the way.

"The Hole Story" shawl is knit in Rylie, HiKoo's new luxury yarn, and the pattern takes full advantage of Rylie's charms.  Rylie is a unique natural blend yarn with 50% Baby Alpaca, 25% Mulberry Silk and 25% Linen. The linen gives a soft but rustic look, baby alpaca adds softness, and mulberry silk adds drape and a hint of sheen.  Bonus:  We have Rylie yarn on sale at 20% off!

Never done a KAL?  It's easy ... Michelle will reveal the pattern on her website in four segments, every Thursday in April starting on April 3rd.  How much does it cost?  Nothing!  You don't have to register or pay any fee to participate. You may even win some cool prizes from Skacel.  Have a question?  No problem, Michelle posts photos and online video instructions, plus you can post questions on Michelle's KAL site or in her Ravelry group. Questions are typically answered daily.  It's like having a knitting tutor right by your side!

Rylie in Sea
You will need two skeins of Rylie yarn by HiKoo.  Michelle's sample shawl is knit in the color Sea, a lovely blue/green (Color #085).  We've got every color of the Rylie yarn to choose from - and they're all on sale at 20% off!

You will also need a size US #7 / 4.5mm, 32" circular needle.  I love the addi Rockets, or you can substitute any of addi's other 32" circular needles, such as the classic addi Turbos or the popular and pointy addi Turbo Lace needles.  Don't hesitate to call us if we can help with your needle selection!   As always, adjust the needle size you need to achieve a gauge of 5 stitches per inch (20sts/4") in stockinette, and remember to block your gauge swatch before measuring!

I can't wait to see how fabulous you look in your new "The Hole Story" shawl.  Send me pictures or post them in our Ravelry group!

Dream in Color Yarns - All 20% Off!

The best dreams are colorful dreams involving rainbows, unicorns, and fairy princesses.  We can't give you a unicorn, but we can give you magical color with Dream in Color yarnBonus:  All Dream in Color yarn, patterns, and Dream Club kits are on sale at 20% off!

Dream in Color was started by two women who love color!  They opened a yarn shop, but instead of organizing the store by weight or brand they arranged the store by color.  Crazy, but it worked!  They had so much fun dying and experimenting with color in the back room that they closed the yarn shop to devote themselves to dying their hand-dyed Dream in Color yarns full time.  Lucky for us!

We've got 14 different brands of Dream in Color yarns - including the new Jilly single ply superwash merino fingering weight yarn and two brand new shawl patterns by none-other-than me! More on the fabulous new Jilly yarn next week.

Some of my favorites:
Groovy in Fierce Scarlet
  • Baby is a superwash merino yarn with a lofty two-ply twist.  This lace weight yarn is great for snugly sweaters or delicate lacy shawls.  Knit for a baby, or baby yourself!
  • Groovy is, well, groovy!  Groovy is a fun, bulky weight superwash merino wool that is a quick knit for cozy sweaters and fluffy cowls.  Got a groovy man in your life?  The Man Hat is available as a free Ravelry pattern.
  • Classy Superwash yarn is spun and uniquely dyed right here in the ole' USA!  A medium weight yarn with great stitch definition, Classy will make any project look classy!
Have you tried the Dream Club Kits?  Each kit includes a pattern along with yarn in an exclusive, limited-edition color.  There aren't many left - and once they're gone, they're gone!  And yes, they are 20% off!
iLuv Ruffles Exclusive Color
  • February - iLuv Ruffles is a ruffly scarf in a lovely blend of pinks.
  • January - Zuni is a cozy cowl that combines the orange, green and brown of the southwest with a bold teal.
  • December - Poinsettia is a headband and fingerless mitts combo in a blend of reds and pinks with just a hint of green.
  • September - Menagerie is a lacy garment that can be worn as a shrug or a poncho in an autumny blend of reds, greens, purples and charcoals with a hint of blue.
Patterns, pattern, patterns!  Dream in Color has some great patterns that take full advantage of the yarn's bold colors!  I like the charming stripes of the Tulip Baby Sweater (and get a free Ravelry pattern for a matching hat), the funky pattern of the Sweet Dreams Sock, and the casual and classy Falling Feathers sweaterYup, they're all 20% off, too.

So which color will you choose?  That's the most difficult part!  We have the most popular colors in stock, but we can also special order any Dream in Color yarn in over 70 different colors!  Extra Bonus:  The 20% off sale includes all in-stock colors and special order colors!

Be colorful!
