Nothing says "spring" like cotton, and Tahki's Cotton Classic has remained the go-to cotton yarn for years!  It looks good and it keeps looking good!

So snub Mother Nature's record-breaking cold weather with Cotton Classic's heirloom-quality yarn in a broad palette of over 40 colors that range from rich and intense to beautiful soft pastels. Lace Pillar Scarf Pattern - FREE with Yarn Purchase!

The Lace Pillar Scarf
Do you want to knit lace or pillars?  How many times have you asked yourself that question?  Well, now you don't have to decide - you can do both!

The Lace Pillar Scarf is just that - lace and pillars.  A ribbed pattern creates a different design on each side of the reversible scarf.  On one side, the stockinette pillars stoically create a traditional ribbed pattern, with little hints of lace peeking out between the pillars.  On the other side, the lace is the dominate feature - very pretty and feminine.  Each end has a fluted ruffle along the edge - flirty and fun!

Lace or Pillars?
For a scarf worn around your neck (and, in extreme cold, pulled up against your cheeks!) you want a yarn that is warm and soft.  You get both with HiKoo's SimpliCria.  Alpacas are known for their wonderfully warm, incredibly soft fleece, and a baby alpaca (known as a cria) has fur that is even softer than an adult alpaca.  HiKoo hand sorts their alpaca twice, so only the softest 1% of the alpaca fleece is used in SimpliCria.

That alone would create a super-soft yarn, but HiKoo takes it a step further with a chain construction.  Knitting with the lofty, airy SimpliCria is like knitting a cloud!

SimpliCria's airy chain construction
So how much is the Lace Pillar Scarf pattern?  It's free with the purchase of SimpliCria yarn!

Bonus:  All HiKoo yarn, including SimpliCria, is on sale at 20% off until the end of February!

You'll need five balls to complete the Lace Pillar Scarf. Knit one for yourself and one for a friend!

Abracadabra! Color Changing Yarn

Abracadabra to Pink!
HiKoo's new Abracadabra yarn starts out as (yawn!) an ordinary natural color - but walk into the sunlight and, "abracadabra", it magically changes color!

What?  How?  The wool is blended with one-of-a-kind UV reactive polypropylene.  When it is exposed to the UV rays of the sun the yarn comes to life, changing from cream to vibrant pink or purple.  Walk inside and the color changes back to natural.

Abracadabra to Purple!
Think of the possibilities!  Phantom stripes, ribs, cables, or colorwork appearing and disappearing . . . unique and fun children's clothes or accessories . . . beachwear that has extra pizazz . . . ski gear that will have you dazzling on the slopes . . . let your imagination run wild!

We have all HiKoo yarns, including Abracadabra, on sale at 20% off until the end of February.  Presto!

The Prairie School Shawl - FREE Pattern with yarn purchase!

The Prairie School Shawl
The Prairie School architectural style was a distinctly American style popular in the late 19th and early 20th century, with Frank Lloyd Wright as the most well-known name.  The movement encouraged handcrafting and craftsman guilds in favor of mass production and assembly line design.  The style also used a lot of horizontal lines to simulate the wide open spaces of the American prairie that simply didn't exist in older, urban European cities.

The Prairie School ideals come to life in the Prairie School Shawl.  Beauty and substance go hand-in-hand in this handsome shoulder wrap. This shawl features horizontal eyelet and garter ridge details in the body, and the fluttering ruffle along the bottom edge.  Like a Frank Lloyd Wright home, it's a stylish accessory that will feel homey and warm!

American B.R.A.N.D. in Biscayne (Blue)
So what's the ideal yarn for this truly American shawl?  HiKoo's American B.R.A.N.D.  The "B.R.A.N.D." stands for Born Raised And Naturally Dyed all here in the USA!  American B.R.A.N.D. by HiKoo is an American-made fingering-weight yarn. It starts off with superwash Rambouillet wool raised from Montana to Texas. The wool is then spun in Pennsylvania where it is blended with soft and durable nylon. It is dyed in North Carolina using natural dyes from Botanical Colors which include nuts, roots, bugs, flowers, fruits, and trees.  The wool is then blended with soft and durable nylon. The result is a product that's proudly American … lovely and robust.

Perhaps you don't have the budget to spend two or three million dollars to purchase a Frank Lloyd Wright home?  Then you'll be glad to know that we have all HiKoo yarn, including American B.R.A.N.D., on sale for 20% off until the end of February.

Bonus:  The Prairie School Shawl pattern is FREE with the purchase of American B.R.A.N.D. yarn!

Julia G Gaiter & Slouchy Hat - FREE Pattern with Yarn Purchase!

Julia G Gaiter & Slouchy Hat
Civil War general and 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant is a favorite son of our home town, Galena.  His wife, Julia Dent Grant, is the namesake for my newest project, the Julia G Gaiter and Slouchy Hat set.  A fashionable woman who was part of one of the greatest social events of the 19th century - the White House wedding of her daughter, Nellie Grant, in 1874 - Julia surely would have appreciated the pretty, yet practical, Julia G Gaiter and Slouchy Hat set

And you will, too!  The Julia G Gaiter & Slouchy Hat will be the keep-by-the-door set you grab every time you go out! This simple design features a very knittable cable detail and is made from soft and yummy HiKoo Simplinatural yarn.  The pattern has enough cable detail to draw the eye without being too cabley.  It's easy enough for a novice and nice enough for an experienced knitter to make by the dozen.

Simplinatural in Cinnamon
The hat and gaiter look great together or separately, and this easy knit only takes one single skein to knit the hat and another single skein to knit the gaiter.

Bonus:  The pattern is free with the purchase HiKoo Simplinatural yarn!

Double Bonus:  For the month of February, all HiKoo yarn - including Simplinatural - is on sale at 20% off!

Elven Inspired February Dream Club

Elven Bosk Wrap
Dream in Color's February Dream Club project is a delicate yet stunning lace shawl - and I'm excited to say it was designed by me!  Called the "Elven Bosk Wrap," the cheery green wrap was inspired by the artistry of the fabled art and beauty of the faerie folk. The wrap features a familiar curled V shape that naturally hugs your shoulders. A filigree of lace reminiscent of architectural tracery provides an organic lower border and recalls the magical thicket for which the pattern is named.

Elvish Details
This dynamic limited edition colorway is dyed in Dream in Color's fine-gauge, exquisitely soft, single ply merino superwash, Jilly.  The yarn itself also gives the entire project a subtle blend of colors you'd expect in the fresh shoots and buds of the very earliest spring garden.

The joyful blending of green and gold will also complement the wardrobes of certain cheese-loving football fans, and the jubilant colors will lift the spirits of those in our office, who shall remain nameless, who are still a bit of a funk because a certain team did not play in the Big Game this year.

Elven Bosk Wrap
The Dream Club kit includes one skein of Dream in Color's Jilly yarn in the February shade and the "Elven Bosk Wrap" pattern. The pattern itself contains both written and charted instructions and is designed for the intermediate knitter.

You will also need US 6 (4.00 mm) 32″ or longer circular needle or size to obtain gauge (I love the new addi rockets!), a stitch marker and tapestry needle. These notions are not included with the kit.

20% Off All HiKoo Yarns!

An alpaca in Bolivia
To celebrate three new HiKoo yams, we've put all of our HiKoo yarns on sale at 20% off

A "Cria" is Spanish for a baby alpaca.  Alpacas are known for their wonderfully soft, incredibly warm yarn.  And just like how a human baby has softer hair than a 60 year old, a cria's fur is even softer than an adult alpaca.  HiKoo hand sorts their alpaca twice, so only the softest 1% of the alpaca fleece is used in SimpliCria.  Then, they add to the softness by using a chain construction, creating a lofty, airy yarn that just flows!   Great for skin-touching projects like a scarf, cowl or hat!

Kenzington in Boysenberry
Kenzington was inspired by its cousin, Kenzie.  Kenzie is a blend of New Zealand merino with a fun, tweedy look.  The new Kenzington uses a similar blend of New Zealand merino wool with nylon for strength, alpaca for softness, and silk noils just for fun!  Then the fun is multiplied by adding a chain construction in a bulky weight for a yarn that is soft, airy - and fast!  With ten tweedy colors to choose from, you can knit up a quick, cozy cabled sweater or soft and springy accessories.

Zumie in Steely Blue
Zoom!  Zoom!  Zumie is a fun, single-ply wool blend in a super bulky weight.  It's hard to pick a favorite color with 20 choices ranging from bold jewel tones, soft pastels, and stand-out neons.  Not sure what to knit?  Each skein of Zumie features a free one-skein pattern on the ball band.  You can zoom out a Zumie hat or cowl over the weekend and wear it on Monday!

Prefer to stick with a stand-by classic like American B.R.A.N.D., Simplicity or CoBaSi?  No problem.  All of our HiKoo yarns are on sale at 20% off.  No need to limit yourself to the three new yarns - it's a good time to add to your stash!  Do it now - the 20% off sale ends February 28th!
