Get Ready for the January KAL!

As you frantically knit late into the evening in order to finish all of your holiday gifts, it's hard to look ahead to next month.  But look ahead we must!  So what will you be knitting in January?  How about knitting a pair of socks in Michelle Hunter's next Progressive Needles Knit Along!   

What will they look like?

The unique sock pattern is knit two-at-a-time on a long set of circulars using the "Magic Loop" method. The socks are for either men or women, and feature techniques new to Michelle's KAL series.  The pattern is for novice and experienced sock knitters alike. 

So what will the socks look like?  We don't know!  That's the fun part of a "mystery" knit-a-long.  Michelle assures us that these socks will have us looking at our stitches in a whole new way!

CoBaSi in Iris Blue

The socks are knit in CoBaSi by HiKoo. It's a cotton, bamboo, and silk blend (get it?  CottonBambooSilk?) that also has a generous amount of elastic. Road Trip Season!

Over the river and through the woods … let someone else drive so you can knit! Taking a road-trip this Thanksgiving? … a perfect time to tackle one last quick knit gift for the holidays. Our Holiday Central section has tons of great ideas for quick knit gift giving (say that three time fast!).

What is an SOS Lifeline Cord?  If you need to pull out stitches, a lifeline prevents you from pulling out too many stitches - you can pull as far as the lifeline but no further.  There are a number of different ways to insert a lifeline (See Michelle Hunter's video lesson on inserting lifelines).  One way is to tape the waste yarn to your needle and then drag it along as you knit.  A good concept, but the reality is that the tape snags your yarn and slows you down.  The SOS Lifeline Cord is a cable with a slit in it to hold your waste yarn as you drag it along - no need to tape it!  The SOS Lifeline Cord is so easy to use that if you are particularly paranoid on a complicated pattern you can insert a lifeline in every row!

Rowan's Birthday Sale!

Rowan is one year old!  Not the yarn manufacturer, our kitten!  So to celebrate we are putting all Rowan yarns and patterns on sale at 20% off!  The kitten, however, is not for sale!

Rowan thundered into our life last November.  We think he was five or six weeks old, so we think his birthday is sometime in October.  Because kittens need so much care, he started out living at the store ... and our customers loved him.  We hosted a survey on our Ravelry site and on our facebook page to name him, and "Rowan" was the winner!  Our intention was to see him through his kitten-hood, and then adopt him out to another family.  Well it's one year later, and he is prowling around the house ... Rowan is here to stay!
