New Exclusive Gradient Colors from Mountain Colors!

Gradient-1 Shawl in Twizzle Harmony Mist

Mountain Colors Yarn has so many colors to choose from, it's hard to pick a favorite.  It's even harder to pick two or three colors to compliment each other for a project.  Or rather, it was hard - but we've made it easy!

We love the Mountain Colors Twizzle yarn, a soft blend of merino wool and silk plied together. Each strand has a beautiful combination of color with a subtle variation in color depth.  You can never have too much of a good thing, so the ladies at Mountain Color Yarn took our five favorite Twizzle colors and created a light, a medium and a dark variation of each.  The result is three different shades that compliment each other perfectly.  The new yarns are sold as “Twizzle Gradient Packs.”  Each pack has three 250 yard skeins (a total of 750 yards) of the same color in a dark, a medium and a light skein.

Every new yarn needs a great pattern ... so I set to work!  I designed an asymmetrical shawl that is simple and stylish, with just enough pattern to make the knitting interesting ... and let the gradients do the work!

Twizzle Gradient Pack in Harmony Moss

“Gradient-1 Shawl” is knit with one yarn pack. Start knitting the skinny end with the lightest color; build with the medium value and finally add a little texture with the darkest color at the wide end. The shawl is done primarily in stockinette stitch with garter ridges at the color changes and some lace patterning with the dark color. It measures 72” across the top edge and 22” at the center point.

You will need a size US 6 (4.0 mm) 40” circular needle. Try the nickle plated Addi Turbos or the sharp pointed Addi Rockets. Adjust the needle size to obtain a gauge 5.5 sts per inch in stockinette stitch if necessary.  No notions required, except chocolate.

Usually the holiday season sneaks up on me.  There I am, counting my Halloween candy, and the next thing you know - BAM! - it's mid-December and I'm asking, "How did that happen?"

But winter is not quietly slipping in this year!  The headline on weather.com is "Arctic Blast Will Leave No State Untouched!"  On Sunday the low overnight in Galena was 4 degrees!

So how do I respond to an early arctic blast?  With an early jump on holiday knitting, of course!
